A Christmas Carol

why dickens makes a scene that the clock struck 12:00?

Scrooge makes it obvious that there is something wrong with the timing here. Why do you think Dickens makes such a fuss about the time by having Scrooge question the time and realize that it was after midnight when he went to bed, but the clock struck 12:00?

I think that Dickens is pointing out that time, like all things in the spirit world, is different from the temporal world.
