A Christmas Carol

Which two social issues does Dickens feel are most important at the writing of this story? Why are they important? Are they still important today?

I would choose greed and charity. Scrooge undergoes both extremes during the play. He is truly a dynamic character. Scrooge is initially hard to the world, validating himself through the acquisition of wealth. Scrooge however is lonely and isolated. It isn't until he discovers the meaning of Christmas and the joy of charity that he changes his life for the better.
