Why does Dave want to finish washing the dishes as quickly as possible?

David washes the dishes as quickly as possible in order to get his breakfast. If he doesn't finish them on time, he will not be fed.

I’m late. I’ve got to finish the dishes on time, otherwise no breakfast; and since I didn’t have dinner last night, I have to make sure I get something to eat.
