Winston Smith has a fascination with the revolution or "great uprising". Winston was in search of truth in a society where truth was manufactured. Winston desperately wanted to know what life was like before the revolution: was it better or was it worse? Winston is constantly thinking about the Party and what, if anything, can overthrow it. Knowing the truth about the past would give him context for the future.
