There are so many devices, I wouldn't no where to begin! I'll try to give you a few. I'd start with oxymoron of the main slogans although really they are a paradox once you put them in context. The three mottos are, "Freedom is Slavery," "War is Peace," "Ignorance is Strength. " When put into the context of an autocratic manipulated society, these statements make sense. There are symbols everywhere. Big Brother or "BB" is certainly a big one. The grandiose moustached man is a manifestation of a demi-God like father figure that keeps watch over everyone. He is an icon that people worship but know little about. He represents power of the state and truth in ideology (Ingsoc) .Many critics feel that Big Brother is a stylistic representation of Adolf Hitler.
