what is unusual about O'Brien? do you think that he can be trusted? why or why not?

Winston is impressed with O'Brien's manner. He senses a connection even though words are not exchanged until later. I'd ruin it if I told you if O'Brien could be trusted. Before I finished the novel, no I didn't trust him. I felt the novel was too dark for there to be any hope.
