What is the porpose of the war going on

Oceania is perpetually at war with Eastasia or Eurasia. It is speculative as to whether an actual war is happening. The Party needs the people to be in a perceived constant state of war.This brings about a crazed nationalism and sacrifice ethic needed for fascist-like parties to maintain control over its people.
