What are the contrasts between Winston’s memories and Winston’s reality? You don’t have to write about all of them, but you could look at difference in color, difference in word choice, difference in feelings, etc.

Winston’s memories are dark and traumatic while his reality is grey and dead. Winston clings to his memories, like the old prostitute and his dying mother and sister, because they elicit emotion. They elicit feelings from an age that was long ago. Winston's reality is emotionless and dead.
