Use of color in 1984

Color becomes an issue in this novel because everything is so "gray," almost dreary and covered with dust. The only time there is color is when Winston and Julia find one another and get away from the drabness of the day. The movie version of this novel does an especially fine job of contrasting color with the life of the people.
