on chapter 2 part 3: Explain the irony in O’Brien’s statement: “You must try harder. It is not easy to become sane.”

Sanity, according to O'Brian, is recognizing that the Party is always truth. Even if what the Party says is insane one must submit to be truly sane. Does that make sense to you?
