How do you think Winston’s memories of his mother influence Winston as an adult?

Winston tries to hold on to his vague childhood memories, as they carry him through his difficult times. Although his memories are painful, he sees the pain real and holds onto the the emotions they evoke. The memories of his mother allow Winston to feel something, as opposed to merely feeling numb and dead in his present situation.
