Winston thinks that primal animal instincts are, in part, the way to weaken the party. Purity and orthodox only perpetuate the party's power. The sex instinct is the one instinct that the party has trouble controlling. Julia sleeping with dozens of men indicates the party does not have the control it thinks it does. It indicates cracks in the foundation of the party. Winston loves this: the more men Julia has slept with, the more he loves her.
