Explain that it is not a real bullet Winston pictures here. Why was it hoped-for?

This phrase is an allegory used after Winston's torture and experienced later while seated in the cafe. In my opinion, the bullet represents the execution of Winston's soul. Other believe that the imaginary bullet is a precursor to Winston's eventual execution (physical).
