1984, written in 1948, is Orwell's vision of a dystopia. Orwell depicts a world consisting of totalitarian governments, complete control of the population, breeding to insure specific traits are both carried on or eliminated, and the constant presence of Big Brother..... watching every move and guaranteeing complacence.

Hitler modeled the depicted governments after the Hitler's Nazis and Stalin's control in the Soviet Union. We see the early indoctrination of children by the state, much like the Hitler Youth. Big Brother is everywhere..... just like cameras are today. The Constituition is gone..... citizens'rights are gone.

One of the main things that has always stayed with me about this novel is Orwell's foresight. Think about all of the things he imagined in the future that we see today..... test tube babies, gender specific births, cloning.... and so on and so forth. What do you see? This novel was written almost 70 years ago.
