Does anyone know of anything that could be used as a symbol.
If so, what is it and why is it a symbol?
Thanks!!! =)

The paperweight is the most obvious.  It is a link to the past--beautiful and useless.  The coral looks large and is protected in the glass, as W and J feel safe in the upstairs room.  When it is broken, their life is also shattered, and W sees that the coral is actually tiny.

Dust is another.  It is everywhere, a sign of decay.

The "oranges and lemons" poem is another link to the past and to churches, which are now defunct.

Singing.  The proles sing, the bird sing, but Party members do not sing.  They are not happy.

The memory holes destroy all of the past.  The Party destroys the past and also burns memory out of people like Winston.

I hope this gives you a start.
