do the rats from 1984 have anything to do with the rats from the black plague in the 1330-1700 ??since the rats is what gave the virsus to fleas whuch bit the human transfering to one another ultamtely being there death.?

I don't know whether Orwell intended to draw these parallels. I just see the rats as a symbol of the decline of civilization. Rats are found in rundown areas. The Party wants to make citizens believe that Oceania is so new and modern and getting better by the day, yet rats are all over. They are large enough to devour a small child, yet Big Brother has done nothing to prevent this. Rats are ugly and disgusting--just like life in Oceania.
Ithink yes. Its true taht the fleas got it from the rats but how much do you know?
