In To Kill A Mockingbird, the town's gossip is Stephanie Crawford, she loves to spread gossip, rumors about people. I think gossip is a reflection of small town life where people generally know each other. Superstition is a seperate issue. We see this in the wild ghost stories of Boo Radley that the kids make up. I suppose gossip and superstition are connected in this way.
