What is the appearance of the jury room, and why would the room affect the mood of the jury

In Act I of the play's text, we are told that the jury room is bare, hot and unpleasant. The jurors are provided with a water cooler and paper cups, there's a clock on the wall and a long conference table. For benefit of the audience, the arrangement of the chairs around the table are positioned so they're facing the spectators.

The room isn't a place you'd want to soend any great length of time. The heat alone would force some jurors to vote in a way contrary to their beliefs just to get out.....
