I think that would represent one of the major themes in the play. The very fact that a jury exists with different viewpoints represents an ideal of democracy. The people (the masses) are trusted with judgment. Individualism is one of the hallmarks of the American ethos. People have a right to express their opinions in the sanctity of the courts.
