is EIGHT making a calculated risk when he makes his proposition or is he acting recklessly? and what will the other jurors do if he doesn't make his proposition?

the proposition I'm reffering to is when EIGHT propeses a vote by the secret ballot from he will abstain. If the other jurors all vote guilty, he will change his vote to guilty. If however, there is at least one vote for not guilty, the jurors must stay and contiue to disscuss the case.

I think his proposition appears to be a tremendous gamble.

I think this is a calculated risk. He is hoping that at least one other juror had listened to his salient points. He was counting on at least one juror doubting the status quo. The other Jurors would force 8 to agree that the boy is guilty.
